What Is the Workplace Charging Scheme?
The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a UK government grant, run through the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), that helps businesses, charities, and public sector organisations cover the cost of buying and installing EV chargepoints at their premises. It’s a voucher-based scheme applied for directly through gov.uk.
What it currently covers:
- Up to 75% of the total cost of purchasing and installing eligible EV chargepoints
- A maximum of £500 per socket (increased from £350 on 1 April 2026)
- Up to 40 sockets across all your sites - so if you’re installing across multiple locations, you can claim support for one socket at each of up to 40 sites, or concentrate that allowance on fewer sites with more sockets
- The scheme is currently set to run until 31 March 2027
Put simply: if you’re installing sockets at, say, two sites for your business, you could claim up to £500 towards each eligible socket, up to the 75% cost cap, whichever is lower.
Who Is Eligible?

- Businesses, including small accommodation businesses (hotels, B&Bs, guesthouses)
- Charities
- Public sector organisations
Your organisation must be based in England, Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland. If you run a state-funded school or education institution, a separate, dedicated scheme applies to you rather than this one.
To qualify, you’ll generally need:
- Dedicated off-street parking on-site, or nearby parking restricted to staff or fleet use
- A genuine business need for EV charging, for staff vehicles, fleet vehicles, or both
- To use an OZEV-authorised installer for the work - this isn’t optional, it’s a condition of the grant
This grant is for workplaces, not homes. If you’re a homeowner, renter, or flat owner looking for help installing a chargepoint at your own house, that falls under a different, household-focused grant, not this one. How the Grant Works: Step by Step
This is a voucher scheme, meaning you apply and get approved before any installation work happens, not after:

Apply for the grant
Apply through the government’s online service, using your company registration number or VAT identification number.
Get Your Code
Receive your digital voucher code once approved. This voucher is valid for 180 days from the date it’s issued.
Give your code
Give your voucher code to your OZEV-authorised installer (like us) before installation begins.
Installation
We complete the installation and submit the claim on your behalf using your voucher code, within the 180-day validity window.

Why Bother With Workplace EV Charging?
